Denmark has confirmed it will remain in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, even if Israel takes part, following weeks of speculation about possible boycotts from other nations.

The debate over Israel’s participation has dominated Eurovision discussions in recent months, with several countries voicing their intention to withdraw should Israel be allowed to compete. Against this backdrop, Denmark’s national broadcaster DR has clarified its position, stressing that it will not pull out of the competition but will continue under certain conditions.

In a written statement, Gustav Lützhøft, Head of Culture, Debate, and Music at DR, underlined that Denmark supports Eurovision as a cultural event that has brought nations together through music since 1956. According to him, Denmark’s participation is contingent upon three factors: a strong international community within the contest, sufficient safety measures, and the preservation of Eurovision as an apolitical event:

Denmark’s participation is neither an endorsement of nor a protest against individual countries. Our commitment lies in upholding the sense of community that Eurovision represents. In times of division and uncertainty, it is worth remembering the contest’s original purpose: to create a space where people can meet across differences and disagreements. That is the spirit we wish to preserve.

While DR has not specified whether further withdrawals by other nations could change its stance, the broadcaster made it clear that it has already communicated its position to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Denmark’s decision comes as the broader Eurovision community faces mounting tensions, with multiple broadcasters questioning their participation in the 2026 edition if Israel is confirmed on the lineup. Still, for Denmark, the message is clear: the show will go on.
