As we reported earlier, the Slovenian state-owned power company, Holding Slovenske elektrarne (HSE), will build two additional solar plants with battery storage in Prapretno, on the site of the closed and reclaimed ash and slag landfill of the former Trbovlje coal plant.

New details have now emerged about the project. Prapretno 2 and 3 will have a combined installed capacity of 6.75 megawatts (MW), corresponding to more than 12,000 solar panels. Their average annual output is estimated at 6,865 MWh, enough to supply more than 1,500 households. The storage system will have a capacity of 7 MW/14 megawatt-hours (MWh).

The investment amounts to 10.85 million euros excluding VAT, of which over 4 million euros is co-financed by the European Union through the Cohesion Fund. The start of operations is scheduled for spring 2026, and the plants are expected to run for 30 years.

Following a public procurement procedure, a contract was signed with the Slovenian engineering company RIKO for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the complex. This officially moves the project into the implementation phase.

The initiative is the result of cooperation between Holding Slovenske elektrarne and local communities, and it is in line with both national and European strategic goals, as well as HSE Group’s development plan, which focuses on expanding renewable energy production.
