Annual inflation in the eurozone came in at 2.0% in August, in line with the target set by the European Central Bank (ECB). A year earlier, the rate was 2.2%.
The figure was stable month-on-month, as June and July also saw price pressures at 2%, Eurostat said on Wednesday, updating its earlier estimate of 2.1%.
Meanwhile, European Union annual inflation was 2.4% last month, remaining stable compared to July. A year earlier, the rate was 2.4%
Food, alcohol and tobacco had the highest annual rate during the month, recorded at 3.2%, compared with 3.3% in July.
This was followed by services (3.1%, compared with 3.2% in July), non-energy industrial goods (0.8%, stable compared with July) and energy (-2.0%, compared with -2.4% in July).
The lowest annual rates were registered in Cyprus (0.0%), France (0.8%) and Italy (1.6%). The highest annual rates were recorded in Romania (8.5%), Estonia (6.2%) and Croatia (4.6%). Compared with July 2025, annual inflation fell in nine Member States, remained stable in four and rose in fourteen.
