What kind of gift does one get for the U.S. president, let alone a king and queen? Let’s say it’s far from a re-gifted candle.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla exchanged gifts with President Trump and first lady Melania Trump while at Windsor Castle today.
The king and queen gifted Trump with a hand-bound leather volume to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, as well as the Union flag that flew above Buckingham Palace on the day of Trump’s inauguration, according to Buckingham Palace.
The royals gifted Melania a silver and enamel bowl crafted by Northern Ireland artist Cara Murphy and a personalized Anya Hindmarch handbag.
Meanwhile, the Trumps gave King Charles a replica of President Dwight Eisenhower’s sword, which was said to symbolize “profound respect” and to serve as “a reminder of the historical partnership” between the U.S. and U.K., Buckingham Palace said.
Queen Camilla was gifted a vintage 18K gold diamond and ruby flower brooch from Tiffany & Co. The brooch is said to represent diplomacy and friendship, containing the birthstones of the queen (rubies) and the first lady (diamonds).
