    Notable is that the proposal contains two proposals subject to two different voting requirements:

    – Suspension of trade related provisions in the EU-Israel association agreement. This is subject to a [qualified majority](https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/council-eu/voting-system/qualified-majority/), at least 55% of member states composing at least 65% of the EU population need to be in favour for the proposal to pass.

    – A sanction package that requires unanimity among all member states.

    Whereas unanimity will be hard to find the discussion around the suspension of trade provisions will show the willingness of member states to take steps towards changing Europe’s relation with Israel.

  4. Sanctions tend to be “sticky”; if the trade agreement is suspended I wouldn’t be too surprised if Ireland ended up opposing their resumption until Israel withdrew from all illegal settlements or similar

    So admitting that the ceasefire needs to come with the release of all hostages, but punishing Israel when Hamas refuses to do exactly that – a full deal for *all* hostages to end the war.

  6. The proud citizens of Israel need to rise up and overthrow Netanyahus criminal administration. It’s been almost 2 years with unconditional American support and they still haven’t secured all the hostages. And during negotiations in qatar, Netanyahu ordered an illegal attack on a US ally and destroyed any hope of a hostage exchange. It’s clear the remaining hostages are not a priority at this point.
