Say Nothing, the “gripping” 1970s drama set in Northern Ireland, has landed a new streaming home in the UK.

Based on the non-fiction book by Patrick Radden Keefe and set during The Troubles, the series opens with the shocking disappearance of Jean McConville.

A single mother to ten children, Jean was abducted from her home in Northern Ireland in 1972 and was never seen alive again.

Spanning four decades, the nine-episode series, described as “a gripping story of murder and memory”, will air on Channel 4 later this year.

The synopsis reads: “Telling the story of various Irish Republican Army (IRA) members, Say Nothing explores the extremes some people will go to in the name of their beliefs, the way a deeply divided society can suddenly tip over into armed conflict, the long shadow of radical violence for all affected, and the emotional and psychological costs of a code of silence.”

Created by Josh Zetumer, the limited series has a score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes from 50 reviews, with critics praising the cast.

“Say Nothing is a heavy watch… But captivating performances by Peake, Petticrew, Doupe and a fiery Boyle deliver us through the darkness of the days and years captured in its nine instalments,” penned Salon.

Variety said: “It’s a project many would balk at in the abstract, but Say Nothing and its uniformly strong cast bring specificity to the IRA’s cause without excusing its atrocities.”

Say Nothing will air on Channel 4 later this year.
