Classic "Cucumber" from 1971 makes a comeback
The classic sitting toy 'Moon Animal' from Gurklandet is making a comeback. High demand means that the toy is being put back into production. The Moon Animal from Gurklandet, or "Cucumber" as it was called, was manufactured between 1971 and 1988. In recent years, the toy has had a real boost, and collectors have, according to a press release from the manufacturer Plasto, paid hundreds of euros for it.
And now, following requests from the public and a boom in social media in the fall of 2024, Plasto is putting it back into production. The Moon Animal retains "its original charm and style", but will be larger and safer. "The renewed and improved version meets all requirements in current EU toy safety standards and is safe and stable for all children," Plasto writes in the press release. The toy will be manufactured in Plasto's factory in Åland.
