The Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, is paying an official visit to Austria, on the occasion of the final opening of the Brenner Base Tunnel, on the Austrian-Italian border.
Mr. Tzitzikostas, together with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, will attend today the meeting of the two sides of the Tunnel excavation and will symbolically press the red button to start the final opening of the largest cross-border transport project in Europe, a 55-kilometer-long railway tunnel connecting Austria, Italy and Southern Germany.
Mr. Tzitzikostas will also participate in a roundtable discussion on sustainable tourism in Innsbruck and will discuss sustainable travel with students as part of the European Mobility Week.
