Doesnt specify details of the assault but this seems light.

So a totally pointless slap on the wrist?

“A police sergeant who ‘toe-punted’ a 13-year-old girl like a football and said ‘How do you like being kicked?’ has been spared jail.
Police Sergeant Ian Cheesman, 53, shocked other officers as he was captured on CCTV footage kicking the child inside a police cell at Chichester custody centre in West Sussex, during a 12-hour night shift on April 5-6 last year.
He claimed this was a professional technique taught to police officers and was not an angry retaliation to being kicked by the girl just seconds before.”

Sounds like the girl was an out-of-control tearaway and the experienced officer should have shown restraint.
