The Director General of the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA), Brian Adrian Wessel, visited Beijing this week for official meetings with the Ministry of Transport of China and the China Maritime Safety Administration.

Talks focused on developments in global shipping markets, maritime safety and the green transition at sea, including the International Maritime Organization’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping. Both sides underlined the importance of continuing to strengthen international maritime cooperation, building consensus on key issues and ensuring stable supply chains.

During the visit, two cooperation agreements were signed. One covers maritime cooperation between the DMA and the China Maritime Safety Administration, while the other concerns marine casualty safety investigations between the Danish Maritime Accident Investigation Board and the Chinese authority.

The Director General also met with representatives from the China Waterborne Transport Research Institute, the China Classification Society and Maersk’s local office in Beijing.

The visit was supported by the Embassy of Denmark in China and forms part of Denmark’s ongoing cooperation with China on maritime affairs.
