Russia and Ukraine exchanged the bodies of more than 1,000 of their soldiers killed in the war, officials from both countries said Thursday.

Russia returned the bodies of 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers while receiving the bodies of 24 Russian soldiers in exchange, lower-house State Duma lawmaker Shamsail Saraliyev told the RBC news website.

  1. Are Ukranians too busy with the war (completely understandable) so they don’t “collect” as many bodies as the russians do or is the ratio of dead people that fucked? (Sorry for bad english)

  2. We have to keep in mind that while the side advancing is going to collect the bodies of both defender and attacker, this advance isn’t always constant.

There is a lot of back and forth; Russian assault groups advance, clear a treeline/trench, then Ukrainians push them back only to be stopped and rolled back eventually and vice versa. – just think of the Battle of Toretsk or Vovchansk.

This means that Ukraine should be able to collect at least more than a few dozen bodies of fallen Russian soldiers, especially since they’re claiming to inflict sometimes [66 to 1](https://euromaidanpress.com/2025/07/29/frontline-report-ukrainian-defenders-revive-roman-anti-cavalry-tactics-to-achieve-devastating-66-to-1-kill-ratio-against-russian-forces/) kill ratio on sections of the front.

  3. The russians know that every body means Ukr needs to pay some 380k$ to the family. I don’t have the exact number now, but i checked some months ago and it was around this number or higher.

So basically they delivered a 380 million bill.

Other comments are right, the fact russians are slowly advancing means that they collect the bodies as they move forward. Ukr on the other hand can only collect deep sabotage groups or soldiers that are working behind their lines. They simply can’t risk any lives to extract bodies from an advancing front line.
