On the day he urged people to use less power he gave the green light for a data centre that will use more power than Co Kilkenny and require fossil fuel to power it @IrishMirror https://t.co/T80JVHuMun

a politician saying one thing and doing another!!! it’s almost as if they don’t mind the hypocrisy
I don’t necessarily have an issue with Ireland having data centres, as long as it doesn’t threaten our energy supply, and are planned appropriately (for example using the heat produced in houses where possible).
They have to be built somewhere. As long as we continue increasing our renewable supply, I’m happy.

BuT tHe MoNeY…….is that not what matters ?
>To add to the farce, with warnings of fuel rationing by the end of the year it has also emerged that there is planning permission at least eight more centres over the next seven years that will use more energy than **24 million homes.**

>Figures show that there are 70 data centres in operation using 900 megawatts and there are a further eight under consideration, expected to use an additional 250 megawatts.
