Donald Trump has revealed he consumed “whatever the hell they served us” during the opulent state banquet held in his honour this week at Windsor Castle.
The US President spent two days at Windsor, with King Charles and Queen Camilla as his hosts, commencing his visit on Tuesday and departing on Thursday.
On Thursday evening, when journalists enquired about the highlight of his UK trip, he expressed his enjoyment of spending time with the “wonderful” King, lavishing praise on the Royal Family following his stay.
The divisive American leader claimed he viewed more paintings “than any human being has ever seen” and when questioned about the cuisine at the Windsor Castle banquet arranged for him, he responded: “Whatever the hell they served us.”
Attendees at the sumptuous affair – graced by “the biggest people in the world” according to Mr Trump – were presented with Hampshire watercress panna cotta accompanied by parmesan shortbread and quail egg salad, followed by organic Norfolk chicken ballotine encased in courgettes, served with a thyme and savoury infused jus, reports the Express.
Mr Trump, who is recognised for his fondness for sweet treats, would likely have relished the pudding – a bombe glacee cardinal, consisting of a vanilla ice cream bombe featuring Kentish raspberry sorbet centre with delicately poached Victoria plums.
He informed reporters: “I don’t know, I think just being with King Charles. He’s a wonderful guy. I got to know him very well. I knew him before, but now I know him a little better.
“The artwork. I saw more paintings than any human being has ever seen and statues. But they treated us great. They treated our country great.
“I view that as being really respectful for our country the way they did it because last night was beautiful. And we had the biggest people in the world there. That was respect for our country.”
When asked about the First Lady’s time with the Princess of Wales, Mr Trump responded: “She did. She thought she was great. I did too. I sat with her last night, Melania went with her today, she thought she was great. A very wonderful person. She went through a lot too – but hopefully that’s all gone.
“William is wonderful. And I knew Charles as a prince and now I know him as a king and he’s doing very well. It was a lovely trip and I thought the press was really nice.”
