September the 20th, 2025 – The Zagreb Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences has agreed on cooperation with the Chinese after recently hosting delegates from China.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the Zagreb Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences recently hosted a delegation from the Chinese province of Hebei and representatives of the local Hebei Vocational College of Rail Transportation.
The guests were welcomed by the Vice-Rector for Innovation, Technology Transfer and Cooperation with the Economy Tomislav Josip Mlinarić, while Dean Marko Šoštarić, after a welcoming speech, presented the work of the Faculty and the Faculty’s projects. The meeting was also attended by members of the Institute of Railway Transport, who guided their guests from China through the Laboratory for Railway Transport Safety and the Laboratory for Modelling and Simulation of Railway Systems.
The aforementioned Zagreb faculty agreed on cooperation with the Chinese with an emphasis placed on the education of experts in the field of railway transport. A framework was also set for broader cooperation on projects of mutual interest, both scientific and research, and professional. The meeting was concluded with the signing of a cooperation agreement.
The Chinese delegation visited Vukovar in early September. On that occasion, a meeting was held at which, in addition to the delegation of the province of Hebei and Vukovar-Srijem County, representatives of the Port of Vukovar and the Special Economic Zone from Zagreb also attended. The possibilities for better connectivity of the Port of Vukovar and the railway running along the China-Europe route, the opening of new trans-Caspian canals and the establishment of a logistics hub in the Port of Vukovar were all topics of discussion.
Further cooperation with the Hebei International Land Port Group was also agreed, which could successfully transform Vukovar into an important point for multimodal transport across the region. It all started back in early February 2023 at the initiative of the President of the Chinese Southeast European Business Association (CSEBA), Mario Rendulić. Owing to him, the very first official talks began between the investor Dong Zihao (Kelvin), the owner of the Singapore-based Eureka Investment Group, and CSEBA.
This Zagreb faculty agreeing on cooperation with the Chinese represents a firm step forward in a closer relationship between these two countries.
