[Intime News]

Europe must strive for an economy that fosters innovation and facilitates growth on 21st-century terms, National Economy and Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis said on Friday, in a doorstep statement upon his arrival for the Eurogroup and ECOFIN meetings in Copenhagen.

“One year after the publication of the Draghi report, if there is a lesson to be learnt from it, it is that we must raise our level of ambition. We should try to achieve more than just eliminate barriers that exist between member-states of the European Union, between our economies,” said the Greek minister.

“We must try to pool resources in strategic sectors, in digital infrastructure such as telecommunications, but also to streamline, to modernize procurement in areas such as AI, cybersecurity, the green transition. We should not just try to have an economy that manages risks. We should try to have an economy that fosters innovation and facilitates growth on 21st-century terms. And this is fully achievable,” he added.

On Saturday, Pierrakakis is to chair a discussion of European finance ministers on innovation and digitalization being held in the framework of informal ministerial sessions.
