    Russia has a long history of shooting down military aircraft that violate its airspace – NATO has a long history of whining about it when Russia violates NATO airspace.

    This history goes back long before Trump was POTUS

  6. If NATO had been more pro-active with shooting down spy-drones, we would not see warplanes today. I’m not saying Putin would pull from Ukraine, but we should have set the red line at least a year ago.

  7. Russia entering NATO airspace is something that happens multiple times a week since the 1970 pretty much.

  8. During the Cold War, both NATO and Warsaw violated the other’s airspace. The question is if it rises to an actionable infraction.

    NATO is not going to war over drones that did not cause damage or incur injury.

  10. Oh, for fuck’s sake. This isn’t showing Trump anything. It was Estonian airspace they violated. Nobody else has the obligation or even the right to care unless and until Estonia invokes article V. They didn’t. So please tell me: how is this showing up Trump?

    Estonia brings their hands and does nothing.

    NATO ally Italy sends jets to look at the Russian jets in a stern fashion.

    Now, the EU leaders are all making speeches.

    But somehow, the author has decided that the US is responsible and that the US should be the world’s policy force.

    If we are supposed to be the world’s police force does this mean we can start telling countries that they have to go back to allowing free speech?
