HOOVER, Ala. – A Jamaican man living in Hoover is now being charged with possession of a firearm, while being in the country illegally.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed Sherwin Rowe attempted to purchase a gun from a dealer in Birmingham earlier this year. He was denied.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin shared this statement with ABC 33/40, saying:

Sherwin Rowe, a criminal illegal alien from Jamaica, who has overstayed his visa by over a year, was arrested while fraudulently attempting to purchase a firearm. After an interview, it was discovered that Rowe actually obtained a firearm already, which is illegal due to his legal status.”President Trump and Secretary Noem unleashed ICE to target the worst of the worst. 70% of ICE arrests are of criminal illegal aliens charged or convicted of a crime in the U.S. This statistic does not even include foreign fugitives, gang members, terrorists, and human rights abusers who do not yet have a rap sheet in the U.S.

Rowe is now in ICE custody.
