Estonia, NATO slam ‘brazen’ Russian air incursion, Moscow denies claim • FRANCE 24 English

These photographs show the Russian MiG31 warplanes said to have violated Estonian airspace on Friday. They were taken by the Swedish armed forces. An incursion lasting around 12 minutes. The three jets entered without permission into the Venlu Island area about 100 km from the capital Telin before being intercepted by NATO’s air defense. Estonian authorities have blasted the move as unprecedentedly brazen and are seeking NATO article 4 consultations with the alliance. NATO air defenses worked, forcing the Russian planes to flee. But being in Estonian airspace for so long is still at least malicious intent, if not a planned operation. Our request is to trigger article 4, which would mean such political consultations between the allies, and then a NATO assembly would beat to discuss and decide what is additionally needed. The Russian war plananes were intercepted by Italian F-35 fighter jets based in Estonia as part of NATO’s air police over the Baltic Sea. Russian jets routinely fly between mainland Russia and its exclave of Kalinengrad and the Russian Ministry of Defense denied any wrongdoing on Telegram, saying that the flight path did not violate Estonian airspace. Meanwhile, Ukraine condemned the incursion as a new provocation tactic, a sentiment echoed by the European Union. It is clear that Russia is is testing how far they can go. On our side, we see that uh that uh we must show no weakness because weakness is something that uh that invites Russia to do more and they are increasingly more dangerous not only to Ukraine but also to all the countries around Russia. This airspace violation comes over a week since around 20 Russian drones entered Polish airspace before being shot down by Poland’s military. And several days later, Romania 2 detected a Russian drone breach. Both incidents prompted NATO to beef up defenses on the alliance’s eastern flank.

Estonia has accused Russia of breaching its airspace, alleging that three supersonic Russian fighter jets carried out an “unprecedented and brazen” incursion. The accusation, made on Friday, drew swift condemnation from NATO and several European nations, which described the incident as a “reckless” and “dangerous provocation.” Russia’s Ministry of Defence, however, rejected the claim.   2. Actually we do absolutely nothing but having a few meetings which Russia cares s**t about. Only one thing works against the mafia state of Russia and Turkey proved this some 10 years ago when a Russian SU-24 was in their airspace for 12 Secs.

  22. Tell putin that if there are anymore incursions that the aircraft will be shot down, with no warnings. Then follow through.

  26. Radio them to warn them to change course, and advise that missiles will be on the way if they fail to comply. Fair, but firm. You're not supposed to be here, expect explosions if you don't vacate the area.
