Pratt man arrested, was found by K-9 unit in crawl space underneath his home after a disturbance call

  • 21.09.2025

PRATT, Kan. (KWCH) – A Pratt man was arrested Friday night after police were first called to a report of a disturbance and it ended a canine unit being used to find the man in a crawl space beneath his house.

At around 4:45 p.m. Friday evening, Pratt police were called to a reported disturbance in the 700 block of Champa St.

The female caller identified Jacob Davis, 36, as the suspect. Pratt Police were told that there was an active Protection from Abuse order against Davis by the reporting party.

Davis had left the scene.

While officers were on Champa St., another person called police to say her vehicle was almost hit by a vehicle matching the one that Davis was driving. Officers canvassed the area to search for Davis’ vehicle.

At 6:09 p.m., the original reporting party called police again to say Davis drove by her house honking the horn. Shortly after, officers found Davis’ vehicle unoccupied, but were not able locate him at the time.

About a half hour later at 6:37 p.m., officers received a third report from the same party in the 700 block of Champa St.

It was alleged that Davis drove by the home and threw two mortar shell-type fireworks at children. No injuries were reported.

Pratt Police were able to find Davis’ vehicle at his home at 1001 Champa St. Officers were confronted by two aggressive dogs and deployed pepper spray to prevent an attack.

Police say Davis refused verbal commands and barricaded himself inside his home. The Pratt County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team assisted setting up a perimeter.

A search warrant was obtained and the special response team deployed CS and OC gas in an effort to get Davis out, but it was unsuccessful.

During the operation, a crawl space with two access tunnels were discovered beneath the home.

After efforts to use a remote-control device were unsuccessful, police deployed a canine unit into the crawl space.

Davis was found and taken into custody.

He was booked into the Pratt County Jail on charges including Violation of a Protection Order, Assault, Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer, Interference with a Law Enforcement Officer, and Stalking.
