WASHINGTON (7News) — A history symposium in Washington, D.C., played host to Queen Sofía of Spain on Friday and Saturday at the Daughters of the American Revolution Constitution Hall, focusing on the global contributions to America’s fight for independence. Organizers highlighted Spain’s lesser-known yet significant role in the American Revolution.

“We also want today’s Hispanic population to know that their ancestors are also a part of the American Revolution and were foundational to the establishment of this great country,” said Begonia Santos, President & CEO of the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute.

The event attracted over 1,000 registrants, according to organizers. Following Queen Sofía’s entrance, international experts, professors, and authors presented their research and stories on Spanish-American history.
