A new YouGov survey asked Americans how they feel about being naked, in which public situations they’ve been naked or topless, and in what settings they think it’s acceptable or unacceptable to be in the nude. Compared to people in the UK — where a similar YouGov survey was conducted in April — Americans are less likely to say it’s acceptable for people to be naked in settings such as their own garden or swimming in a natural body of water.
10% of Americans say they love being naked and 14% say they like it. About one in five (19%) dislike being naked and 6% hate it. Nearly half (44%) say they neither like nor dislike being naked.
Women are more likely than men to say they dislike or hate being naked (30% vs. 20%). Adults under 30 are more likely than older Americans to say they dislike or hate being naked (31% vs. 24%).

My wife and I joke that either you have a naked neighbor or you are the naked neighbor.
We have a small addition in our house with a raised floor that you can see several other homes from. It’s our TV room. I used to walk around naked there all the time, until one of our neighbors mentioned in casual conversation how she can always see which TV show we’re watching from her kitchen window… Made me realize if she could see the TV, she could see me. It was very obviously meant to let me know, and it was the most polite possible way she could have told us. So I don’t go in that room without at least boxers on anymore. Sorry you had to see all that, Hannah.
I like to walk around my apartment naked after a shower and air dry – sometimes I’ll even work naked just because it feels freeing. I tend to keep my curtains closed but if someone tries to look in and sees me, then it’s on them and not me. Don’t go looking in people’s windows.
Why are people so stodgy??? I dont understand it.
I like being naked but I would never do it in public. Just in privacy
I’ll tell you what, there’s dozens of us never nudes. DOZENS!
I belong to one of these categories and my partner to the other. We often cuddle with one of us naked and one fully clothed which probably looks kind of funny
This data directly conflicts with what I know about old men in locker rooms.
I’m not embarrassed if people see me naked but I think it’s just…uncivilized? getting your body oils all over the furniture or worse, yuk.
There are dozens of us! Dozens!
Interesting perhaps but beautiful is questionable.
Between missing numbers if the percentage is 6% or less, and putting “Don’t know or prefer not to say” within the spectrum as if all respondents for this *are” between “Like” and “Dislike”, eugh. The font in bars is also not great for legibility.
Kinda fat fuk here, love being naked. Just don’t wanna share.
I garden naked sometimes. Not in my own yard. Nobody knows, is able to see me, and my daughter’s grandpa’s yard looks great when he comes back from a trip. The bugs on my sweaty buttocks are annoying sometimes. Worth it. 9 more months till summer.
And that despite the cliches and tropes, aand even accounting for singlle people and gays, there are a fair number of women not sleeping nude next to men who are.
Is it that they dislike being naked themselves or they dislike when certain other people get naked? Because I can see that, the people that want to be naked all the time are usually not the people you wanna see naked
I’d love to see a study like this that accounts for gender dysphoria too 👀
)h, stop booing. There’s nothing wrong with it. There are dozens of us! DOZENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In my home I am naked almost 90% of the time during the warm months
US does seem overly prude in that category (I am from US).
My gym has a sauna in the men’s locker room where they have a little sign saying all sauna users must be covered and not nude. It’s a sauna in a men’s only locker room, why do I need to be clothed?!
i’m sitting here naked browsing reddit right now. feels freeing… plus less laundry to do
