Had an Albanian Classmate, who spoke fluent German and also had like Greek, Bulgarian and Italian ties. He basically said that he got his Albanian passport for a few hundred bucks and that whenever he is in Albania he is already prepared to just spend a little more on bribes or staff to actually get things done. That’s basically just standard there. It’s on every aspect of life. If someone wants actual working Internet, they have to pay the manager of the local company a little more. If they want to have their road not be full of holes, they gotta pay an official some money.
Everyone who gets WE standard income there (5000€/month, let’s say) pays like 2000€ for bribes (mind you, the average income there is still a multitude lower than in e.g. Germany so they are still well-off after that)
Well we don’t call it “corruption” in the north. It’s just nepotism and that’s legal!
They should have labelled corruption as Lobbying
