Of course. Otherwise, they may have to jump out of tall buildings voluntarily.
Culture of corruption. Perun has many slideshows on this. Private conscriptovich does his part for the effort.
You are a Russian Major/Colonel in the field, and your general says you must accomplish “X” or you will be executed. You tell him your troops have accomplished “X” in a great victory for Russia.
Then we hear the voice of Morgan Freeman saying:
[*but as it turns out, he had not, in fact, accomplished “X”]
Since someone explained the concept of Vranyo to me a few years ago, Russia and its actions have started to make much more sense to me. Though it does pose the question which kind of culture would invent the concept of the communal lie (complete with the sacrificial weakest link) in the first place.
I thought this was common knowledge by now? They’ve been lying to higher ups constantly from day one. The whole invasion was planned based on the lies people told their superiors.
Not the best way to win a war when your own higher-ups lie to their soldiers deliberately.
Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth. Eventually that debt is repaid.
Should have seen that coming
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
This was one of the main reasons Hitler failed in WW2. Generals were either too scared or too egotistical to tell him the truth about the situation at hand. Communication is information and you can’t communicate properly with someone who; is terrified of you, or only cares about themselves.
When you set up an organization that punishes dissent and rewards loyalty over truth you inevitably make a system where truth comes second to self preservation.
Or this could be a tactic to feed false information to your enemy to appear weak.
This is not a bad thing at all. The next ruzzian waves are probably welcome to be dropped straight in the “occupied” area to “free” the Ukrainian nation. To free the Ukraine from their presence
Gaining power through rampant corruption and lies, and promoting a society built on lies and social distortions kind of leads to lies, corruption and distortion of reality as being features no bugs.
Way to go Z! Help them stop making mistakes by announcing it to the world!
I always found it funny and ironic that the best ally Ukraine/Zelenskyy have is Russia. Like when Putin acted differently from what Trump wanted and it pissed Trump off. Ruining a moment where US would’ve given Russia 85% of what they wanted to Trump going “scorch earth” on supporting Russia. I’m sure Trump is going TACO or something but thats not that relevant to my immediate point.
Apparently, Russia doesn’t have the army they thought had.
Grift is Russia’s biggest industry. That’s what happens when the mafia takes over a new government.
This is why authoritarian power structures are unstable, there’s so much incentive for lying to preserve yourself that you will inevitably have blind spots.
Other global powers come to mind…
Nice having fun!!!!
Why would he want to share this information with us. Doesn’t make sense.
I mean, aren’t the ruzzian soldiers literally paid a shit ton of cash to join and are incentivized by gains in the battlefield? With the shitty training and the main motivation for their participation being mainly money, i am not surprised by this at all.
When it comes to what gets shared on social media, the independent maps made with verified sources are not *that* different from the maps shared by pro-russian sources. The pro-russians just tend to minimize the gray zone and exxagerate russian advances a bit
Just finished watching the show Chernobyl. Feels very relevant even today, “What will be the cost of these lies?”
And when the oligarths skim billions from the defense buget you can’t win a war. Oops. Thought this was about the US.
Vranyo (Russian: враньё) is a Russian concept for a particular type of lie: one told with the mutual understanding that no one is expected to believe it, but everyone plays along with the pretense anyway. The concept originated during the Soviet period and is seen by some analysts as an entrenched aspect of the Russian state and its military.
