Iceland is set to pay for one lucky student’s entire tuition fee for one year to celebrate the return of its student discount scheme. The frozen supermarket giant will foot the bill for the entire annual fee of up to £9,535, after it was confirmed that new students will face the first increase in tuition fees in eight years.

An Iceland Foods spokesperson said: “With fees going up, we’re stepping up. Students already have enough on their plates, so we’re making sure it costs a little less to fill them. Our 10% discount is back, and to celebrate, we’re going bigger: with daily discounts this September. It’s our way of saying: we’ve got your back, from Freshers’ Week to exam season. One lucky student will [also] have a year’s worth of their student tuition fees paid for, a great start to your university year.”

The competition has been launched to mark the return of Iceland’s nationwide student discount scheme, first trialled in stores last May.

The scheme gives students 10% off their shopping every Wednesday, but to celebrate its comeback, Iceland is offering the discount every day until Monday, September 29.

To get 10% off, students need only head to Iceland or The Food Warehouse stores any time until September 29 or every Wednesday thereafter, and show their valid student ID.

To be in with the chance of getting their student tuition paid for this year, students can fill out an online form here.

More Iceland supermarket savings schemes

Iceland has a Bonus Card scheme that runs all year round, which offers exclusive ‘Bonus Card’ prices and cash rewards.

People must add money to the card, after which they’re awarded a £1 ‘bonus’ per £20 that’s deposited. The maximum bonus that can be earned with this card is £50, and there is no expiry date to claim the reward.

The Bonus Card also has a new festive promotion running. Load £100 of new savings onto your Bonus Club account in one or more transactions between September 16 and October 28, and customers will receive their usual £5 bonus (£1 free for every £20) and qualify for an additional £15 Christmas Bonus, amounting to a total reward of £20.

In addition to the Bonus Card, Iceland also offers sizeable savings to pensioners. With its Over 60s discount scheme, people aged over 60 can bag 10% off their shop every Tuesday, with no minimum spend, across Iceland and The Food Warehouse stores.

Eligible Britons simply need to bring in a valid form of ID in order to redeem the discount. This includes a Senior Bus pass, a Driver’s Licence, a Senior Railcard, or a Freedom Pass.
