  1. If you want decent steak cooked by someone competent you are already paying that anyway. Nothing wrong with Rump if you go somewhere decent and they use good quality meat.

  2. An article tailor made for this sub – watch how the r/unitedkingdom miseries will comment telling us the country is collapsing, they love this kind of news

  3. They’ve even started putting security tags on steak now. The thing is, the shelves stay full right up to the use-by date, so most of it just ends up in the bin. Instead of lowering prices so people can actually buy it, supermarkets would rather waste it.

It’s no surprise shoplifting is going up. Some gangs are even stealing to order because it’s become such a profitable trade. Meanwhile, ordinary people are left struggling to afford basics.

  4. If farmers are leaving the industry then perhaps our Australian and New Zealand cousins can fill the gap. I am pretty sure Irish beef farmers will be delighted to ship more prime beef into the UK. If that is the case the price will settle and no one will notice any real difference.

  5. Glad I gave that shite up, waste of money for what you get.

Lamb, pork, chicken and fish all miles better

  6. I just see what’s in the mark down section. But they are become less attractive too as the don’t take a lot off. Everything is expensive.

  7. I never go out for steak. I can buy a beautiful filet from the butchers for about £10. Reverse sear it at home and it will taste better than most restaurants.

  8. Have no fear what the rich won’t eat, will be minced and served up soon from Americas finest food providers…

The UK’s fast food scene is experiencing a wave of new American chain openings, with several major brands including Chick-fil-A, Popeyes, Wendy’s, and Dave’s Hot Chicken launching in2025 and 2026. This follows the established presence of chains like McDonald’s and KFC and is driven by factors such as market potential and the ability to offer unique flavors and concepts to British consumers.

  9. Things are gonna get crazy when the market crashes six months from now I’ll be conservative 12 months from now things are looking very different

  10. There’s a really sad reality that it doesn’t seem to be economically viable as a country to have small/ medium “family farms”. Now I’m not saying I’m against them or not supportive of them. But the amount of economic variability and the enormous costs involved, how can they survive without either being subordinate to a larger consortium or/and being heavily subsidied by the tax payer. When faced with min £30 steaks the market is just going to source it elsewhere.
If we don’t address how farming is done in this country it’ll all collapse.

  11. Thankfully family farms are being bought out by good hearted global investment companies. So that’s good. I can only see positives from that…

  12. Its a shitty position but over supply means lower prices. Good for customers, bad for farmers. If some go out of business, there is less supply. That coupled with, if it is still cheap to import beef from thousands of miles away, then its an industry that will struggle. This idea that we must be self sufficient in case if some total war is nonsense when we live in a global economy. Its shit for sure.

  13. £30 at a restaurant too expensive? Don’t go then, duh.

  14. This is an EXCELLENT first step towards reducing GLOBAL WARMING. Farming cattle contributes a significant amount to global warming with all the greenhouse gases produced. Hopefully the price increases will deter more people from buying it and reduce the demand.

  15. Beef prices are ridiculous here. A single cow could feed a family of 4 for a year, they produce so much meat there is no way they should be costing more than other meat products.

I lived in Argentina for a few years and really ended up loving beef, so much more you can do with it than chicken, so many more cuts, much cleaner and lower risk of illness from a bad batch etc.

Being back in the uk and seeing how it costs 3x or more than chicken per kg is just sad. And even then we only seem to get a few specific cuts in most supermarkets, if they even bother to tell us the cut at all, where on earth does the rest go? There’s so many amazing cuts we just don’t have or if we do they’re only sold in “gourmet” butchers that are more expensive still

I guess it’s easy to “batch” farm a million overfed chickens in terrible conditions and then grind every part of them into whatever than actual bother to rear cattle and use it effectively that are so much better in the long run

  16. maybe the government should let beef farmers actually protect their livestock from TB. it would sure help

  17. Went into Morrisons the other day, thought I’d grab a steak…

£11 for one that was only 6-7 a month or two ago.

I’ve converted to Lamb steaks, cheaper, and honestly just as good.

  18. A conspiracy theorist would say it’s part of a plan to stop people eating meat.
