Hi! I'm visiting Riga, and me and my friend went to the food market to try some traditional food. We got this box of what looks like crumbled caramel. The woman in the stall didn't speak English, so we don't know what it is, but it tastes a lot like dried peanut butter. It looked like it originally came giant blocks, and that this was just the rest products crumbled. Does anyone know?

  1. Halva, it’s not Latvian, but it is quite popular here

  2. halva. most probably made from sunflower seeds.
not really Latvian, its origins are the region of modern day Iran. But its still popular here since during the russian occupation halva was the soviet union *answer* to capitalist peanut butter.

Personally I cant stand the taste.
