September the 22nd, 2025 – Croatia’s well known Končar company has succeeded in contracting three large jobs across the pond in the USA.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Sinisa Malus writes, Končar – Measuring transformers (KMT) is continuing to unlock and achieve new business successes over in the USA. During the last three months alone, Končar three large contracts in the USA as part of capital projects for the construction of transmission networks on that demanding market.

Following the contract the company concluded back in 2022 with the company PacifiCorp, a member of the Berkshire Hathaway Group, KMT delivered sixteen transformers of voltage levesl 245 and 525 kV. These are combined and high-power voltage transformers of the VPT type with a power of up to 167 kVA per phase.

The delivered units will be installed at the Heward and Freezeout transformer stations in Wyoming, Little Snake in Colorado and Coyote in Utah as part of the Energy Gateway transmission expansion project (Gateway West and Gateway South).

Currently, one of the largest transmission projects in the USA aims to construct and operate more than 3,700 kilometres of new high-voltage transmission lines across the western United States of America. This will significantly increase the capacity and reliability of accepting and transmitting large amounts of electricity from renewable sources to all relatively heavily populated centres.

Two project-related contracts for Dominion Energy, headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, also featured prominently. As part of the Wishing Star to Mars project, Končar successfully delivered a large number of high-power voltage transformers with a voltage level of 245 kV and a power of up to 250 kVA per phase.

This is a massive project to upgrade the electricity transmission infrastructure across eastern Loudoun County, Virginia, and includes the construction of a new 500/230 kV transmission line and two transformer stations. Completing the project by the end of this year will improve power reliability and meet the growing number of energy-intensive customers such as data centres across the wider northern Virginia area, with Croatian know-how positioned even more firmly in American minds.
