    £1.5B sounds like a lot of external investment coming into the UK, but ultimately what does it mean for normal people? The article states it’ll create up to 350 jobs… Wow, incredible…

    Also the Palantir CEO, Alex Karp, is, how would the Americans put it? A complete wack job.

  10. Not a surprise. Peter Mandelson’s lobbying firm, Global Counsel, has counted Palantir as a client for some time now, and earlier this year Starmer visited Palantir HQ during his visit to the US

    That said, no one can do what Palantir does – but we should be cautious about giving them critical data

    I’ve been following this for a while and the UK could definitely stitch together a mostly European stack, SitaWare for the common picture, Adarga or Hume or i2 or Maltego for intel and graphs, plus Helsing, Hensoldt, Thales or Safran for sensor fusion and mission software. Run it on the new UK sovereign cloud. You’d get most of the capability with more control and less lock-in.

    The only drawbacks I can think of is integration and security sign-off, while Palantir is more or less ready to go… but it’s Peter Thiel. It’s the easy/lazy option but it’s worse for you in the long run, the McDonald’s of defence policy. If the MoD set open standards and paid a UK or European prime to join it all up, a solid alternative is realistic.

  17. This should be causing an outrage. Palantir is a comically dystopian organisation, go have a look at their marketing slides. Want to be able to build profiles on everyone, their views, their interests, their habits, their characteristics. They are genuinely dangerous
