Question About the Band Steve N Seagulls (in comment)

  1. Hi there!

I hope this is appropriately on topic. I have a particular question about the band and I’m not sure how to go about googling it lol let me ask the question then I’ll explain.

Do some people in Finland actually dress like this?

So to start with, I am an American who is from/lives in a rural community. Where I live, a lot of people really dress and live the way this band represents in their pictures and music videos. Heck, between my husband and I, we probably have most of the pieces of clothing in the picture in our closet. I found this band recently and I really enjoy their music. I want to preface that the answer to this question is not going to change that! But do people culturally dress like this? Or are they ‘cosplaying’ hillbillies for lack of a better word?

Again, I don’t really care either way! I was just curious because I have seen trends with artists doing that before. But I have also said there are rednecks (using this as a term of endearment and not insult) everywhere you go and from my travels that has proven true. Thank you!

    Edit: words.

Edit 2: Just want to make it clear that I don’t think there aren’t rural communities and stuff all over lol of course there are. I was just wondering about their style because I think it is really cool.

  2. The denim overalls aren’t really used anymore in farmwork afaik. We have better work clothes nowadays!

But as a thirty-something soccermom from Helsinki I rock the heck out of overalls lol

  3. As others have said, they are leaning a bit strongly on their costumes but those are mostly correct. Though the slavic fashion for track-suits has come a bit here which I understand is not as common in US.

A more realistic but similar wardrobe you can see in male-choir Ylioppilaskunnan laulajat rendition of Pohjois-Karjala. The sub-titles are in English and are thematic to this thread (going back to the countryside).
