The United Kingdom now formally recognises a Palestinian state, the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has said in a video statement on social media.

Ahead of the announcement, Canada became the first G7 nation to make the same move, followed by Australia.

Starmer said it keeps "alive the possibility of peace" and insists the UK will "keep fighting to bring" home Israeli hostages.

However, Israel's foreign ministry says "recognition is nothing but a reward for jihadist Hamas".

    Recognise Palestine for kudos among the Muslims nations in the Middle East and to try pacify Muslims in the UK, meanwhile the UK still sells weapons to Israel, likely shares intelligence etc and gets to not overly antagonise the US for not being seen to support Israel sufficiently.

  14. A lot of smoke and mirrors unfortunately. They seem to be taking a leaf from Americas book in their handling of the Russia invasion of Ukraine. Say one thing and do another. How can you say you recognise Palestine and yet supply Israel with the weapons to wipe said population off the map. Assisting Genocide all while trying to paint yourself as a leader of freedom and democracy.
