I see no problem with this, should of been done months ago.
Good. About time we sorted that out to be honest. Folks zip around my town on them without issue, all the drug dealers use them now and frankly that is saving people time so it can only be a good thing.
I used to ride a bike to work before the pandemic, back in the office one day a week right now and I’m having to walk to build my fitness back up (as I don’t want to be sat in sweat soaked clothes), being able to ride an e-scooter would be ideal for me as I’m not as young as I was.
I rather see them on pavements than the road as they don’t quite mix well with heavy vehicles. If the government want people to use them they should provide proper safe tracks for them to be used upon.
After the fix it so children can travel school, libraries, parks, clubs, etc… by foot, skates, on their bicycles, etc… safely without adult supervision. Adults should never have had to spend so much time being their little tykes’ chauffeurs.
kinda feel like there needs to be some regulation on their safe usage though, as they can move pretty fast and are often used on pavements – if they hit an elderly person for example they could do some serious damage :/
just last night I had to step out the way of a few people when I was walking home (although it was quite late tbf so not many people out)
About time.
Roads though are a terrible place for little 8in wheels. Especially the sides. Holes and obstacle galore.
Failing the mass prevelence of cycle paths, I want them allowed anywhere. I also want the riders to be forced to carry insurance. Safety features to be mandated. A registration scheme. And a forced CBT like course to use any that can do more than 10mph, which will cover things like ‘you can go 25mph up a cycle path if it’s clear, but you cannot pass another person at more than 5mph’ and ‘don’t speed by blind corners’.
With temporary bans to be swift for those that demonstrate incapacity.
There’s little choice, they’re absolutely everywhere.
They’ve been trialing it all for years now. They’re safe and they’re clean when licenced and ridden by people properly. The illegality is the only thing stopping me getting one for commuting and keeping us a 1-car family.
People riding them need to obey all traffic laws. If I had a penny for all the times some moron has swerved off the road onto the pavement in front of me, I’d be fucking rich.
Regulate speed, where they can be ridden, lights, bell and helmet use with a common charging port – to reduce e-waste and inconvenience
They aren’t much different from e-bikes
Great, more idiots treating the paths as their personal racetrack. It’s only a matter of time before someone is killed by an idiot not paying attention as those scooters can do serious damage to a person.
This is the opposite of what I expected them to do, to be honest. I thought they’d just outright ban them.
Good. People are using them on the road all the time. Either enforce the law or repeal it.
So what happens when a scooter going 35mph crashes into a pedestrian resulting in lifechanging injuries and there’s no insurance required like for bicycles.

If you want to be on the road you should be insured.

Quads, Scooters, Bikes whatever.
That’s very exciting. I had an amazing time riding these EVERYWHERE in Norway, extremely convenient.
Spent a few days in london, walked around a lot, ive been london a lot as a tourist visiting family.
The one thing that absolutely stood out this time is the desperate need for a reduction of vehicles, especially those in touristy areas.
Camden, especially the main street could do with pedestrianisation, its seemed crazy to me that places like trafalgar square are still not pedestrianised.
You literally close off these roads and create lanes stretching all the way from hyde park down to big ben, london eye, and other great areas.
Not only would that help reduce the stress on tubes but potentially could increase income for local businesses and create more local businesses along these lanes. Its also a much greener way for people to travel around the city.
As for my own city, we’d desperately benefit from these sort of initiatives. Id love it myself, i dont see down sides to these sort of initiatives, we need to remove cars, especially with shorter journeys. There is no need to be driving a car 5-10minutes down the road when we currently have greener solutions available.
These are used in towns and cities a lot with minimal potholes, but if these are legislated for I assume they will be allowed on all roads?
I have enough issues with potholes on my bike with comparatively massive wheels. This could start a massive wave of compensation over poorly maintained roads.
Please legislate helmets then, at least for minors
Then they should be made to have an MOT Tax and Insurance like another powered road vehicle and be accountable for their actions
Hot take but the reason escooter riders have a bad reputation for being reckless is because they’re currently illegal
