Reported a driver with very bloodshot eyes and who wasn’t wearing his seatbelt (didn’t notice either until the end of the ride) and Uber responded citing UK law.

  2. they don’t have to wear it if a customer is inside, while taxi driver can drive without one even when driving alone. It’s perfectly legal

  3. there’s a reason, there have been enough drivers attacked over the years using the belt to strangle the driver. If they have no passenger they are still supposed to wear it.

    I was a taxi driver in the Netherlands decades ago. Similar rules. If you drive around on your own you wear your seatbelt. If a customer gets jn you don’t. You’re in charge of the vehicle and the customer. If they need help or do something erratic or malicious you need to be able to deal with it quickly.

    Do you think his eyes were bloodshot because he enjoys sitting in his car 12+ hours a day regardless of if he feels well or not?

  32. This is not only in the UK. Taxi drivers and visibly pregnant women are a pretty standard exemption.

    But, if this is an intention, you take the unworn seatbelt from the side of them still anyway.

  38. Reporting a taxi driver for no seatbelt is a madness. Not even hit 9am and already moving like that.
