Yassin Mohamed, First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and supervisor of environment, safety, energy efficiency, and climate, visited Methanex Egypt’s factory in Damietta Governorate.

Reflecting the ministry’s commitment to embedding a culture of occupational health and process safety as a strategic pillar of the sector, the visit highlighted the long-standing partnership with Methanex to strengthen process safety systems across petroleum, gas, and petrochemical operations. It featured a field tour of the site to review operational processes, control and prevention mechanisms, and the safety systems in place. Moreover, the Methanex Egypt team showcased the company’s achievements in the field of safety.

Mohamed said that it is crucial to implement a unified safety strategy across all companies in the sector, to protect the lives of employees and preserve the environment and properties, contributing to a safe and investment-friendly work environment. This aligns with the fifth pillar of the ministry’s strategy, involving health, safety, environment, and human capacity development.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Shindy, the managing director of Methanex Egypt, affirmed the company’s commitment to reinforcing the exchange of expertise with the ministry and other companies in the sector to uphold the highest safety standards.

Earlier this month, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Methanex Egypt, and the Engineering and Science Services (ESS) of the American University in Cairo (AUC) collaborated to launch the initial round of Egypt’s first Process Safety Management (PSM) Professional Diploma.

Methanex Egypt is a joint venture between the Egyptian petroleum sector and Methanex Corporation, the world’s largest producer and supplier of methanol. Methanex Egypt has a production capacity of 1.3 million tons per year.
