Gas prices in Florida jumped markedly last week, rising 25 cents from $2.95 per gallon to a $3.20 price point on Thursday before easing over the weekend, according to AAA — The Auto Club Group.
By Monday morning, pump prices in the Sunshine State settled even lower at $3.10 per gallon.
AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins noted that a 25-cent increase “may sound steep, but these kinds of fluctuations have become fairly routine over the past year.”
Florida’s average per-gallon gas price has moved between $2.92 and $3.23 over the last year. A recurring pattern has been a gradual drop over 10 days, followed by a sharp rebound to previous levels.
“The fuel market itself remains relatively stable,” Jenkins said. “Retailers frequently adjust pump prices to stay competitive. Once prices dip below a profitable threshold, stations raise them again, and the cycle starts over.”
Notably, gas and crude oil futures prices have remained steady over the past week, which indicates there will be no major shifts in wholesale costs.
The cheapest gas in Florida is in Pensacola, where motorists are paying an average $2.85 per gallon for regular, followed by Panama City and the Crestview-Fort Walton Beach area, where it’s 1 cent more.
The priciest petrol, meanwhile, is in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton area, where drivers and motorcyclists are shelling out $3.24 per gallon, followed by Naples ($3.18) and Ocala ($3.17).
Nationwide, Florida is middle of the pack in terms of statewide gas prices.
The cheapest gas is in Oklahoma, where it’s $2.68 per gallon, followed by Mississippi ($2.70), Louisiana ($2.74) and Texas ($2.74).
As usual, the most expensive gas is in California, where it’s $4.67 per gallon, followed by Washington state ($3.62) and Hawaii ($4.47).
