Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Poland is prepared to shoot down foreign aircraft that cross into its territory without authorization after a series of Russian incursions into NATO airspace.
“We will most certainly take decisions to shoot down flying objects when they violate our territory and fly over Poland,” Tusk said on Monday. “There is no room for discussion here.”
His comments come as the United Nations Security Council gathers in New York Monday for an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss the latest breach in Estonia last week.
Well, yeah… unauthorised aircraft probably should be shot down. This shouldn’t be seen as controversial. If Russia gets all pissy about it, perhaps NATO should start flying over Russian airspace.
This is the position we should have took long ago, make it clear we are not bluffing. We will shoot down Russian aircraft and any survivors will be arrested and tried as terrorists just as Russia did to Ukrainian pilots it abducted in the war in Donbass
The only thing a bully like Putin understands is power
Do it! F*ck Russia

Well, the purpose of these incursions is nakedly clear. The clear message is that the US won’t respond. And it is a paper tiger under Trump’s leadership until Europe decides to steer its own path.
Do as Putin does. Shoot them down and then smile and deny. That’s what Turkey did, remember? Literally – take the wind out of his sails and put some doubt in his mind.
Highly speculative, but if shooting them down leads to escalation, can Poland still trigger article 5?
I really hope Poland or the Baltics find the courage to shoot them down, because they are obviously trying to test the limits.
No threats necessary, just do it
This shouldn’t even be news.
If they want some deniability, they just need to conduct some live fire AA exercises.
What do you mean a Russian plane was shot down during our exercise in our own air space?
any unauthorized aircraft crossing is fair game.
Seems Russia is trying to provoke NATO into a response. But for what end? They are already stalled out in Ukraine. They want more enemies involved from different fronts?
This should not be a controversial take.
Do it
‘Balloons’ have been shot down over the Canadian north. Shoot these Russians down already. (face palm).
Threatens? For real? Just say and do it. You cross my borders, and I shut you down, got it?
What’s he waiting for?
Permission?
The amount of pearl clutching going on around the actions of a diminutive klepto state and it’s mystic wizard bully leader is really astounding.
Just warn once. After that just shoot.
I’ll believe it, when they actually do it.. For being Europes Texas, Poland is being a bit too nice, to these intruders..
Türkiye did it and got away with it. These borders need to start being protected and any Russian interference taken seriously.
Drop a couple and they will not do it again.
Well, yeah…
Invade sovereign air space, and that’s what happens.
Poland doesn’t mess around.
If NATO jets would pull that off, I doubt that Russia would let that happen. NATO needs to react accordingly.
They have to shot them down period. Armed and hostile aircrafts are entering another country air space without authorisation and causing a potential security threat. Enough with ‘we don’t want to escalate’. You let the wolves coming into your yard maybe they’ll start eating some sheep and after that they would like to taste human flesh. Shot that bitches
I am sure this will be tested and pretty sceptical of the response.
After a written memo to Putin?
I swear if you guys invade my airspace 15 or 16 more times Im gonna get really mad.
Alternate response suggestion; Denmark withdraws from the treaty making our waterways international waters; [Copenhagen_Convention_of_1857](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copenhagen_Convention_of_1857) maritime treaty governing transit passage through the Danish straits. We could with the aid of Poland, Germany, Sweden etc, just block all Russian shipping in the Baltic.
Do IT!
I wonder what would happen if nato aircraft’s were to enter Russian airspace. Certainly they would be offered a warm welcome
Shoot them down. That’s the only language russia understands
Someone else had a genius idea: just claim they were unidentified aircraft without transponders. Either nothing happens or Russia claims they were theirs but then they have to admit they were there in the first place and explain why. In that case: “sorry we shot them down. Better watch out where they fly next time”
As they should. Russia is not doing it on “accident”. They’re doing it to see if the US will do anything to aide NATO and finding out gleefully, we won’t do shit.
Jesus fucking christ. The world is a bunch of fuxking Tim Peelers “yea, we rough talked em and they ran off.” DO something. Its absolutely insane to me
Good. But also please actually do it.
1 mile into russia and they would shoot NATO plane. Why we hesitate?
Dont come unwanted. Fuck off or get shot.
Two risks must be balanced here. One one side all these provocations and hybrid attacks makes NATO look weak and casts doubt about the security guarantee. On the other hand we know that Putin would just love to have some legitimacy behind the propaganda claim that they are fighting the collective west, not just Ukraine.
I’m leaning towards caution for two reasons 1: they are clearly trying to provoke a response – seems almost like a trap – we should not do what they want us to do. 2: Europe should stay focused and pour all resources into supporting Ukraine instead.
That’s what you’re supposed to do when you’re under attack by an enemy foreign government
Is there not concern as to what happens when one of these is shot down and it lands on things? I’m not upset with this decision, just curious about the logistics.
