Sinclair Will Not Air ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ Upon ABC Return Tuesday

  1. > While “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” will return to ABC on Tuesday, the late night show won’t be returning to Sinclair’s ABC affiliates as the broadcaster will replace the show with news programming as discussions with ABC continue.

    >Though ABC later suspended Kimmel indefinitely, Sinclair argued that the suspension was “not enough” and demanded that he apologize and make a “meaningful personal donation” to the Kirk family and Turning Point USA. It also called for “formal discussions” with ABC regarding “the network’s commitment to professionalism and accountability.”

    ^ Their position.

  2. Chris Ripley (CEO) can eat my ass. I hope Disney yanks their affiliation with ABC.

  3. Trying to shake down Kimmel over free speech is okay. Sure.

  4. They are so dumb. So, they keep doing this and the merger goes through, then the quid pro quo argument still stands. If they aired jimmy, it wouldn’t.

  5. Hey Chris, why don’t you get on and do some comedy?.

I am sure some of those Southern Fried Viewers will appreciate your morally superior, billionaire nuance on what’s right and wrong as you kill with those knock knock jokes.

  6. Great. He’s back and we never really had to deal with the fallout from Charlie Kirk’s assassination and the ghoulish response to it. Everybody wins!

  7. Disney should offer the show to other local stations. They would jump at the chance.

Disney should also tell Sinclair they don’t get to choose the programming. They must take all ABC shows or they will find another local station.

  8. Well they also said they would air a Charlie Kirk tribute and backed off at the last minute

  9. Wonder how long before people just start seizing their local tv stations by force

  10. How do I boycott Sinclair?  Is there a list of Sinclair advertisers I can contact to voice my displeasure?

Seriously, we need a hero to compile a list of contact info for Sinclair advertisers.

  11. I’m sure that local news programming will crank out ratings like crazy.

  12. I’m now more interested in how and why this bluff happened to begin with than I am in the assassination.

Yes the assassination happened. Yes we need to address the issue of extremism and reject extrajudicial murder as an acceptable response to criticism. On all sides.

Yes I think cancelling a late night comedian’s show is an incredibly weak-minded response to criticism. Yes, it strikes me as an accommodation to the current administration.

Why they’re walking it back I don’t understand? But I’m not mad about it. It won’t make me re-subscribe to any Disney streamers. That ship set sail. It’s not coming back this way. Direction taken.

    Good luck and good riddance.

  13. It’s time for the networks that are at risk with Sinclair’s antics to band together and fight back. Disney’s yearly revenue is $91 billion. NBC’s is 40 billion. Sinclair’s is like 5 Billion.

Maybe it’s time to ratf**k Sinclair, legally, and with IP pulling their programming and identifying markets where Sinclair is replaceable, and buying up anyone with an independent license in Sinclair’s geos, and going on a M&A spree to crush them.

Also, although cable TV is still big in some markets, some of these networks banding together and going on the biggest push for streaming yet, for long term gain and making it as easy as possible to switch would also be viable: Putting Disney+ on aggregators like Amazon, and their networks on the Amazon channel packages, offering 1 year free in Sinclair geos etc etc.

These networks need to fight back, or they will always be beholden to Sinclair.

  14. Never seen Kimmel’s show, but will be turning it on for the rest of the month atleast in the background.

Pretty much how Fox News gets their zombie ratings from nursing home lobbies.

  15. Guess I won’t renew Disney Plus until Disney deals with this

  16. I don’t watch network TV. I have no need to. I don’t stream any of the shows.

  17. I’m sick of these big conglomerates gobbling up local network affiliates. You know how many network tv stations a company should be able to own? One.

  18. Disney isn’t doing a thing about this. If anyone wants to pull a Jack sparrow can probably find the same on the high C’s 🏴‍☠️D….__m____….!! M3 🥲

  19. The fact that Sinclair is trying to act like they have some kind of moral high ground whilst literally extorting Jimmy Kimmel to donate to a political organization is insane. Especially when Kimmel’s comments don’t touch the insane level of hatefulness and misinformation the president himself spews on a near constant basis. Fuck Sinclair.

  20. Kimmel needs to put Sinclair on blast. Most people have no idea they exist or that they control the majority of local media. I know I didn’t until a few years ago.

  21. Let me see… ABC and all the other TV channels are like 15% of revenue.
18% of ABC’s viewership is terrestrial affiliates.
Sinclair is around 18% of those affiliates.
    Sooooo….

  22. This is actually an easy fix – email – auto dealer who has ads with Sinclair – “I will not shop with you, I will instead go to your competition that is 14 miles away” cc – Sinclair tv station – they will fold in less than a week.
