Woke up Sunday when of our cats was very curious and wanted to take the vent down. Noticed that a wasp was getting out of it.
After dealing with the wasp, around 4-5 followed into the room until we covered it with plastic wrap. We can still here wasps flying inside and trying to get in.
I heard wasp nests in room vents are quite common here and that wasps are protected by German law?
Called pest control already but really surprised the vent has no mesh wiring or somehow the wasps still went through? Has anyone experienced this before?

Indeed most wasps are, in most cases, protected.
And they like any sort of smallish, warm spaces. Vents basically perfect for that.
And from the damage I have seen them do, they probably would just eat around or even through (depends on material) the wiring.
If you never experienced bigger encounters so far, I would just wait. Usually they build their nest in spring and summer which means it’s there for months already. But the good part: they use their nest only once per year. Soon they will all die when it gets colder. Then it will be safe to remove.
Maybe you should put mosquito net on it instead of plastic until the issue is solved.
