Egypt and Jordan held a discussion session on enhancing cooperation and integration between the two countries in the energy and natural gas sectors. The talks were held during a meeting that brought together Karim Badawi, Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources. It was held within the framework of Badawi’s visit to Jordan.
The two ministers stressed the importance of continuing the successful Egyptian-Jordanian integration in the natural gas sector. The collaboration leverages existing infrastructure, such as the gas network connecting Egypt and Jordan and the liquefied natural gas (LNG) import system, while also promoting the exchange of technical expertise.
During the visit, the two ministers participated in a ceremony celebrating leadership handover in the Jordanian Egyptian FAJR company for Natural Gas Transmission and Supply; a successful model of the partnership between the two countries. The company’s chairman, Fouad Rashad, handed over his role to the new CEO and General Manager, Yasser Salah Eldin.
In July, the two ministers witnessed commissioning the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Energos Force at the Port of Aqaba. The vessel receives imported LNG shipments, regasifies it, and pumps it into the Arab Gas Pipeline to secure energy supplies for consumption sectors in both countries and effectively handle any emergencies.
The Jordanian Egyptian FAJR Company began operations in December 2003, when its founding partners decided to establish a company dedicated to transporting and exporting natural gas. The company was tasked with implementing and operating the second phase of the Arab Gas Pipeline within Jordan up to the Jordanian–Syrian border, under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) scheme for 30 years, extendable by an additional 10 years.
