3. Another step to control womens bodies, another step towards eugenics. If you know someone who is receptive to Trump’s bullshit, shut them down and shame them on this.

    basically don’t trust doctors unless you really need. There is no reason to be taking these pills at all for a normal healthy person.

21. I know there has been some recent research showing a potential moderate link, but it’s certainly not definitive or settled science.

    More research is needed. Taking paracetamol sparingly is absolutely better than suffering a serious fever during pregnancy, though it probably shouldn’t be a first resort for more minor ailments (*if* you can get rid of a headache by drinking more water and having some fresh air, best to try that, with paracetamol if it doesn’t work – how most people operate anyway I imagine).

    The correlation shown during the research I’ve read was only moderate – it’s certainly never going to be a total preventative measure (the genetic link is much higher, and there are almost certainly always going to be other environmental factors), but *if* the link is proven and the advice reduces severity or risk of autism in 20% of children, that would be a great thing.

22. The first Autism diagnosis was in 1943,
    Trump was born in 1946.

    So close, why couldn’t he have just been 3 years older.

23. There was a sytematic review published in August that suggested a potential link between neurodevelopmental disorders and paracetamol usage in pregnancy.

    This was one study that analysed the trends from a total of 46 studies in this area. It seems this is the paper Trump is using to form his perception on this matter.

    This is science, so any link is tentative. What this means in practice is that this paper shouldn’t be ignored, but more grants & robust research is needed to fully evaluate the effects of paracetamol on foetal development.

    The authors did not advocate for a blanket ban on paracetamol usage at this stage. It’s too early for this. They also recognise a stressed mother can also induce problems during foetal development. So, if paracetamol relieves some ‘stress’/migraines etc. there may be net positive effects from its usage.

    Rather, they suggested being more cautious when using paracetamol when pregnant: 1. To use the lowest effective dose, 2. For the shortest possible duration.

    The also suggest paracetamol use WHEN pregnant should perhaps be used under the guidance of a GP and not self-adminstered, for the reasons cited above.

    We have to be careful that research doesn’t become a political football on any side of the political spectrum.

    Seen this comment the woman said it’s paracetamol and the MMR vaccine, so how does that even make sense if paracetamol is meant to cause it in the womb? And MMR is 2 years after.

33. The sad and infuriating part of this is how the autistic community is constantly used as a scare tactic to sell some new conspiracy. They treat autism like it’s a fate worse than death, which is just ignorant and disrespectful.
