So I’ve been in Norway for two weeks now, and honestly, this place feels like it was designed by someone who got bored making normal landscapes and just started showing off. Like, oh you wanted a mountain? Here’s one that dives straight into a fjord, enjoy your jaw hitting the ground.

Everywhere I look it’s stupidly beautiful. Lakes look like someone polished them with Windex, forests stretch forever, and even the cities are clean in a way that makes me suspicious. Back home in Finland, you’re lucky if a bus stop doesn’t look like a crime scene.

What really gets me is how peaceful it is. Even the “busy” parts aren’t stressful. I went on a hike and had to stop every ten minutes just to stare at the view, which probably made me look like I was having a midlife crisis on the trail.

Here’s the problem though: I still have 3 weeks left here, and the thought of going back to Finland already feels like someone telling me summer break is over and school starts tomorrow. I love Finland, don’t get me wrong, but… Norway is like Finland’s hotter sibling that went to the gym and learned good skincare routines.

  1. I’ve visited Norway a few times in my life and I didn’t want to leave every time. I miss it. I try to comfort myself that “it’s probably not that perfect, there are probably flaws I can’t see…”, but it’s hard not to be impressed. The beauty is real, the peace seems real also.

  2. Haha. Finland is really gorgeous but Norway is stunning. I find the people and cities pretty similar though.
Luckily you’re only a boat and train ride away and can explore more over the spring and summer next year!
It will get more busy as southern Europe gets hotter and less bearable

  3. Can i (as a Norwegian) agree without being a nationalist? Patriot if ur American

  4. Exactly the same feeling, just came back from 3 weeks in Norway, can’t wait to go next time again. Already miss it so much. Doesn’t help that the Netherlands is completely flat either..

  5. How the fuck I am tired of those kind of posts. Just today in the night we have temperature near 0. In September. Fuck this weather. Landskape is ok, I agree.

  6. this is lovely! i do feel blessed to live here. which part(s) did you visit?

  7. You have phenomenally put into words the awe that I felt when I visited Norway last month. I could see from the pictures online that Norway was beautiful, but it nowhere prepared me for the visual spectacle it is in real. We did a roadtrip from Senja to the Lofoten islands , then Kristiansund. Next we flew to Bergen to another roadtrip in and around the Geiranger fjords and I am convinced that there is no place on earth as beautiful as Norway is and honestly can’t wait to return to that place

  8. Wait until it rains and blows wind everyday for 2 weeks straight, to then get 2 days of sun which you missed because of work, then more wind and rain.

  9. Never been to Soumi, but a lot of this sounds like you are comparing a city in Finland to the Norwegian countryside or outskirts of a city.

Would be surprised if you do not have beautiful lakes and surely you have a lot of forests that stretch on forever. Just based on maps, you seem to have some amazing inland waterways.
