  1. Why would anyone breed these satanic abominations?

  2. Tragic.

But it frustrates me to no end when people blame the entire breed rather than asking for regulation for dog breeding and dog licences.

There is a chance that that dog’s parents were mentally unstable and shouldn’t haven been bred in the first place. Too many breeders (esp backyard) breed for looks rather than temperament or genetics. It is also a possibility the dog was poorly socialised as a young pup and there was some trigger that set it off.

And I really would like to see owners undergo basic education before getting a dog and mandatory training after getting a dog. It may or may not be the case here but too often people don’t know how to handle large dogs, how to read their body language or how to train obedience (the article said the dog showed no aggression, however no one will admit to having seen signs of aggression after the dog has mauled a child)

Edit: hey, downvoters, I’m genuinely curious what exactly you disagree with? That the situation is tragic? That dog licences are required? That many owners are woefully uneducated?

  3. XL Bully dogs are responsible for 3/4 of the last 20 dog deaths in the UK.

  4. At this point the people saying don’t blame the dog, blame the owner are just in denial.

    It is clearly the dog.

  5. Would never happen in Singapore. They were banned before they appeared as it were and any found would have been instantly destroyed.

All ‘muscular’ breeds muzzled in public- there’s a list including Alsatians; all dogs on leads in public. Dog licenses.

    High trust law abiding society.

  6. so basically they valued the idea of having a banned, aggressive breed of dog over the safety of their child

this is tragic but how many more children need to get torn apart before some actual substantial legislation gets passed?

  7. As I say every time another one of these XL Bully hit pieces shows up. They need to be licenced and regulated like a firearm, along with other aggressive and powerful hunting and security breeds. They are a hard to control breed with natural aggression due to being bred for hunting and security. They should not be treated like every other lapdog. That doesn’t mean they’re not your pet and you can’t spoil them and love them to death, but they require stricter training and behavioral checks and owners need training on how to properly handle them and how to have them around people and other animals. They have a high potential for out of character outburts of aggression due to their natural and bred instincts and so that must be recognised, understood and expected by owners of them and they should know how to keep them from harming anything. Failure to do so should result in owners being prosecuted in the same way they would be prosecuted for mishandling vehicles or weapons.

  8. I had one of these Mogwais once what shitted out a load of Gremlins. Now Gremlins get a bad rap in the papers, but it’s the owners what’s the problem really. Your basic Gremlin with a good owner probably wouldn’t even hotwire a snowplow. This nanny state bollocks is just anti-Gremlin. Simple as.
