Suspend Israel from international football over ‘unfolding genocide,’ UN experts say

1. Excluding South Africa from international events, tournaments etc was one of the things that impacted the white South Africans during apartheid and made them feel like the apartheid had a direct negative effect on them personally without harming them physically like sanctions and blockade.

   I don’t think it’s a universal applicable strategy but for smaller countries with lots of international connections I can imagine it would have a strong effect on the popular support for the status quo.

2. Would love to see how much Israel has donated to UEFA and FIFA since Oct 7 to allow them to continue participating in their events

3. Israel strategically uses football, singing and other cultural exchange to whitewash their image and gather support. Just like other countries who committed genocides who also denies it openly. And organizations that have authority over such cultural exchanges (such as Eurovision) lets them participate despite banning Russia so quickly.

4. So this genocide is only now unfolding? Didn’t it start right in october 7th, according to some? Or even 75 years ago?

   Like, is this genocide thing getting started already? Help me out here guys.

5. This is pathetic by UN. They were bleating on about genocide 2 years ago, went away for 2 years and did a full commission audit, came back to say that Israel had potentially incited Genocidal language, no one cared, everyone just laughed at them. The US certainly doesn’t care so the entire exercise was irrelevant.

   And now they are back talking about Football.

   It’s almost making me cringe.

6. They seem to forget that the FIFA and UEFA have no shame or moral compass. Infantino is constantly dickriding autocrats including Trump. And so far they didn’t seem to budge despite constant issues during away games. So I’ll believe it when I see it.

7. Woah, suspending them from football. This is some serious shit. Such harsh sanctions! Even worse than if they would’ve been cut off from VISA or western companies stopped operating in ther country, because they “don’t want to sponsor genocide”. Impressive as alwasy, UN experts

8. Russia was excluded from sports. I don’t see why major organizations can’t do the same to stand against Israel. If you embarrass the population they will force change.
