  1. There’s actually been some really exciting progress in HIV research thanks to CRISPR. In animal trials, scientists were able to completely remove SIV (which is similar to HIV) from monkeys. And just recently, the first human trial (called EBT-101) showed that a one-time IV treatment using CRISPR could cut HIV out of infected cells in people’s blood. It’s still early, but this could be the first step toward a real cure.

    It’s a good reminder of how important awareness, education, and funding have been in driving progress. Because of all that work over the years, we might actually see the end of HIV/AIDS in our lifetime.
