I randomly found the video on YouTube yesterday. At first, I thought it was a movie. I was surprised to see the comments on the video and wanted to share these images here.
The pershing crew was lucky that the panther crew think it was an ally tank…
By 1945 that Panther was probably filled with geriatrics and children the Germans conscripted out of desperation.
Over hundred years ago since we first rode into fire
Just finished reading the book “Spearhead”, was about the tankers in this tank and their battles all the way into Germany. The American gunner had PTSD for decades after this due to a car careening through the battle, and a young woman – and her boss – being killed. He felt responsible for her death. Really good book if anyone’s interested. Thanks for posting.
Always thought this was some sort of propaganda film. The whole thing seems a little staged.
Super know video, which I didn’t know
Is it just me, or did the AI audio said Allah AKHBAR in the 14th second?
There is a YT channel called “Battle Guide” he explains in great detail exactly what’s happening and who was involved, including the names of the crews of both tanks
Kölner Dom was still beautiful back then
Looks straight out of Saving Private Ryan. Anyone know if Spielberg based a lot of the final battle off of this footage?
EDIT: Nevermind. The original footage is black and white so this was likely colorized and upscaled by AI in the style of Saving Private Ryan.
so was it the pershing that got cooked off or was it the panther? genuinely confused here tbh
just going by the helmets of the dudes at the end, it feels like the Americans won this round…
So happy that cathedral survived. It was amazing in person
This looks highly enhanced from the last time I saw it
I was stationed at Buechel AB 25 years ago. Trier and Cologne are beautiful cities and close by. My landlord had a “War Room” with maps, guns, uniforms, flags and memorabilia. I had to sit with him monthly to pay rent. Wife couldn’t deliver nor could I drop it off in the mail box or electronic transfer. He was old school and def a Nazi. Couldn’t mention the final solution in our talks. I will say this, he would get the maps out and show places to visit off the touristy path where engagements occurred and locations of lines of defense towards the end of the war. He’s long dead by now I imagine.
There is a book about the pershing crew. Years later both crews met after the war…. how stupid is war.
That quality is insane
This is sweet, read the book on this.
Is this real? Oh shit
The thump of that heavy machine gun. Damn
Looks like the Pershing won.
OG Anti-Fascist!
If I remember correctly, the Pershing tank came pretty late in the war and had limited combat exposure?
Crazy how the city is way less destroyed than Gaza even though this is fought by near peer superpowers while Israel has overwhelming firepower compared to Hamas.
I love ww2 footage.
Looked like a Russian tank the way it quickly flamed out of every hatch. No turret toss though—German engineering
I don’t know if the gunner survived, but he was climbing out of that tank really quickly and awkwardly as it caught fire.
The audio is definitely from something else. I recall several sounds from the Day of Defeat mod.

Those boys look traumatized.

Reminds me of the scene in Band of Brothers with the [hidden Tiger](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iI691zeXxT8) tank.

Is the sound original or was it added?
