  1. Don’t people regularly get 18 months for hitting people with a car?

I’m not against drunk driving e scooters being illegal.

But I do think crimes that are more dangerous to yourself should be less than crimes that endanger others.

    Edit:typos

  2. People drive these things whilst completely out of it all the time where I live.

They’re generally far more of a danger to themselves than others.

  3. Poor girl didn’t know bless her innocent people buy these without knowing how hard the police will police it in England it comes off as a they decide when they want to go after certain offenses surly a electric scooter is not classed as a vehicle right ? Its a Scooter right surly.

  4. I think its kinda wild that Segways got strangled on the vine by laws that made them not pavement legal, and now we have pricks fucking slaloming between pensioners at 30mph.

  5. That throttle control is responsible for a lot of extra charges. If she was on a ebike ghost pedalling and getting up to 15.5mph and was caught she’d only get a fixed penalty notice.

Ebike at 15.5mph weighing in at 25kg, effort to get to that speed is virtually zero.

Escooter at 15.5mph likely half the weight at 10kg and the same effort to get to the speed.

Yet because of pedelec law it’s just a bike so no points.

Ironic as the ebike would do more damage if involved in an accident but it carries less severe punishment.

  6. I was in London the past weekend and literally outside of the spoons was a parking area of about 15 of these scooters and I thought to myself this would be a bit more enjoyable journey home luckily I changed my mind when it took me too long to register on the app.

  7. People really need to understand that electric scooters are vehicles and not toys. Too many ride them with reckless abandon and act as if they could not possibly come to harm or harm others while riding them. You see people weave in and out of traffic and pedestrians and it is amazing more people have not been hurt as a result. E-scooters are a great idea but the law is playing catch-up now when it should not have to.

  8. Obviously it’s stupid riding those things while drunk. You see them all over in cities on a Saturday night.

But a driving ban is far too harsh.
