What exactly is the state of Palestine? • FRANCE 24 English
The state of Palestine is recognized by more than threequarters of UN member states and has non-member observer status within the organization. What does it represent? It has a population of 5.5 million according to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics. 3.4 million Palestinians live in the occupied West Bank and 2.1 million in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian population is characterized both by its large diaspora. The PCBs estimates that there are 15 million Palestinians worldwide and by its youth with 65% of the population under the age of 30. East Jerusalem is the claimed capital of the Palestinian territory which consists of two entities. The Gaza Strip and the West Bank divided into three areas since the 1995 Oslo Accords. Zone A under Palestinian Authority. Zone B under partial Palestinian autonomy and zone C which was to be the subject of negotiations aimed at gradually transferring it to the Palestinians but is still controlled by Israel. The Palestinian territories are gradually being reduced by the expansion of Israeli settlements. In August 2025, Israel approved a key project to build 3,400 homes in the occupied West Bank, which would cut the Palestinian territory in two. The Israeli NGO peace now counted 141 settlements in the West Bank as of November 26, 2024. At the same time, the development of illegal outposts, settlements established without the Israeli government’s authorization, is intensifying, 32 in 2023, and 61 in 2025, according to Peace Now. All these factors make it more difficult to establish a viable Palestinian state. The recognition of the state of Palestine, therefore, remains primarily symbolic. The countries that recognize it do so mainly to show their support for the two-state solution.
🇵🇸 The state of #Palestine was declared on November 15, 1988, by Yasser Arafat, then leader of the Palestine Liberation Organisation. 🌍 Today it is recognised by more than 140 of the 193 🇺🇳 UN member states, with 🇫🇷 France, 🇧🇪 Belgium, 🇨🇦 Canada and 🇦🇺 Australia to recognise it at the @UN General Assembly in September. But what, exactly, is the state of Palestine?

¾ of the U.N. recognizes a nation that
DOES NOT EXIST
(say you're insane without saying you're insane)
Nothing, there is no such thing
NO PALESTINIAN STATE NEVER
Wow, Good analysis
Thanks for this great works
how can there be palestinians worldwide when palestinians consistently refer to their occupation as an open air prison? how many prisons in the world allow their occupants to come and go?
why is judea called occupied West Bank when 2 thirds of the area is controlled by Palestinians?
Being symbolic is a long, long way in perception from being effective and factual.it's a political manœuvre;it was an "idea" that suddenly popped up late in someone's head with no consideration for today's conjuncture. It's a dream that will hardly come true. 🥸💭
Realistically it will never happen.
Don't forget about Hamas. Can't leave them out.
