While the Eurovision world has been shaken by boycott calls, Luxembourg has chosen a different path. RTL Luxembourg confirmed this week that the country will continue its preparations for Eurovision 2026 in Vienna, regardless of whether Israel is ultimately allowed to compete.
In its statement, RTL underlined that it is following the ongoing consultation process within the European Broadcasting Union, but stressed that its own plans remain unchanged. Preparations for Luxembourg’s entry are moving forward “as planned,” a phrase that signals stability at a time when uncertainty surrounds several other broadcasters.
RTL also leaned on Eurovision’s core values, reminding audiences that the contest is meant to stand for cultural exchange, diversity, tolerance and mutual respect, principles that should rise above political conflicts. In short, while others are threatening to walk away, Luxembourg is choosing to stay in and trust the process.
The broadcaster’s position sets it apart from countries such as Spain, the Netherlands and Slovenia, all of which have declared they will withdraw if Israel is present in Vienna. Italy too has faced internal pressure, with some members of the Rai board calling for a boycott. Luxembourg, however, has no such plans.
Instead, attention is shifting to the country’s own national final, the Luxembourg Song Contest, scheduled for 24 January 2026 at Rockhal. That show will determine who carries Luxembourg’s colors on the Eurovision stage, marking only the 3rd year since the country’s long-awaited return to the contest.
