12. Disgusted. I was raised on a farm in PA in the 1970’s. Between horrid interest rates, inflation, and low crop prices, we had to quit. Sold the machinery and livestock, my dad went back to work as an engineer, and I went into the military. No bailout for us. My folks were just barely able to keep the farm, which they loved.

26. Trump 1.0 had retaliatory tariffs from China in 2018 that severely impacted Ag exports to China & other countries: Soybeans -77%, Corn -88%, Wheat, -61%, & Sourgum down a whopping 95%. The $12B 2018 Farm Bill helped save many farms, curiously it expires 9/30/25 after it was extended 2 years. The more things change the more they remain the same.

40. Look, I don’t want to see anyone fail but I don’t think it’s fair to give them something that we couldn’t give to kids for school lunches. These people know how to work and are capable of finding an income. However, there are children out there whose parents don’t have the ability to cover dinner much less school lunch for their kids and these are the group of people that voted to not give school lunches and they voted for tariffs and they voted for crackdowns immigration. I don’t want to seem heartless but I can’t help but feel like there is a lesson to be learned here and maybe pulling yourself up by your bootstraps is something they need to understand. I know that the current administration will find some way to make up for the failures it has dealt these rural families. I know that if it were the other way around it wouldn’t be something they would want for inner city people to have anymore help than what pulling themselves up by their bootstraps would produce. I get very exhausted by the double standard.
