Enviro advances large-scale waste tire pyrolysis plant in Sweden

Malo, Sweden – Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) has completed the delivery and installation of five pyrolysis reactors at its end-of-life tire (ELT) pyrolysis plant under construction in Uddevalla, Sweden.

In a 23 Sept statement, the Swedish waste tire recycler said the work has been carried out in line with the schedule previously communicated.

“With the delivery of the fifth and final reactor, all equipment included in the main process is now in place and fully assembled,” said Fredrik Emilson, Enviro CEO.

The reactors, Emilson said, “are the most central part of the entire plant as they are the core of our recycling technology.”

According to Enviro, the plant’s main process comprises the pyrolysis reactor and a so-called main skid, which circulates gas within the reactor and extracts oil through condensation.

It is at this stage that carbon black, oil and steel are recovered from ELTs.

A post-process stage follows, where the recovered materials undergo further separation, refinement and storage.

Enviro has been constructing the Uddevalla plant for the past 18 month, on behalf of Infiniteria, a joint venture formed by Enviro, Michelin and Antin Infrastructure Partners.

The plant is the first full-scale facility based on Enviro’s pyrolysis technology and, in its initial phase, will have the capacity to process 34.5 kilotonnes per annum of ELTs.

Enviro expects the plant to be operational towards the end of 2025, with a provisional acceptance certificate (PAC) scheduled for mid-2026.
