  1. The IDF launched its ground offensive to take over Gaza City a week ago. Since then, it has been advancing rapidly across the city, taking minimal casualties while exploiting its overwhelming firepower, manpower, and air superiority.

The war will not end with Hamas losing Gaza City, which, at the current pace, will probably happen within weeks, but Israel will then be able to establish an internal perimeter and freeze the situation. Hamas may still hold hostages, but Israel will hold the stronger hand.

Gaza City once had an estimated one million residents, but in the past couple of weeks most have left, leaving the city largely empty

  2. I guess that’s better than hospital to street fighting.

  3. I do not think Hamas has even 3000 soldiers to fight there and can do much fighting at all.

  4. This reminds me of that old song –

    Brave Sir Robin ran away.
    Bravely ran away away.
When danger reared it’s ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
    And gallantly he chickened out.

  5. Also what’s interesting:

    > The BBC has spoken to a Hamas figure who claims the militant group is willing to call thousands of fighters into the city

Until now, the IDF had conducted only “localized raids” into cities, without aiming for full capture (except for Rafah, which was actually fully taken months ago and remains entirely under IDF control). Knowing this, al-Qassam militants generally withdrew from combat zones to safer areas to preserve their strength and lives. But now, militants are actually flocking into Gaza City, likely aware that Israel has changed tactics and is going “all-in.”
